Christian Brothers - Congregation of Christian Brothers (CFC)
Founded by Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice in 1802 in Waterford, Ireland. Introduced to Australia in the Diocese of Melbourne from Ireland by Bishop James Goold OSA and Br Patrick Ambrose Treacy in 1868. First WA community established at Christian Brothers’ College, St George’s Terrace, Perth, from Melbourne, Victoria, in 1894.
Marist Brothers - Marist Brothers of the Schools (FMS)
Marist Brothers and Lay Marists belong to one of the rich spiritual families of the Church. This distinctive path of Christian discipleship was introduced into the life of the Church by Saint Marcellin Champagnat and the first Marist Brothers. Since then, it has been developed by successive generations of Marists and it remains a compelling way of living the Gospel, at the service of the Church. Marists take Mary as their model, imitating her faith-response to God and sharing in her work of bringing Christ-life to birth - nurturing its growth in themselves and in young people. Marists strive to make Jesus Christ known and loved through the Christian education and care of young people, especially those most in need. They undertake this work in schools and universities, youth ministry programmes, social welfare and solidarity projects.
