Western Australians are being urged to take action and voice their concerns about the possible introduction of a bill to legalise Euthanasia, following the McGowan governments announcement of their aim to progress legislation of assisted dying laws late last year.

The Centre for Life, Marriage and Family (formerly Marriage and Fertility and the Respect Life Office) in collaboration with Care for Life, plan to engage the Catholic community in a letter-writing event on Saturday 4 May at the Newman Siena Centre, in hopes to take action to contact politicians and bring awareness to the culture for life movement.

In a few months’ time, Victoria will be the first state in Australia to exercise voluntary assisted dying medical practices, for those who request it from their doctor.

It could soon become a reality in WA, after the State Government announced plans to introduce a bill in Parliament later this year.

If the legislation is passed, the future of medical practice in WA will be drastically and indefinitely altered.

Program Manager Life Services at the centre for Life, Marriage and Family, told The Record the event will be vital in helping fight for the dignity and compassion of human life.

“Euthanasia erodes the inherent dignity of the human person by reducing our humanity to the quality of our health,” Ms Karniewicz said.

“The letter writing event provides an opportunity for people to support each other to make their voice heard.

“In a community setting, with like-minded people, together we can learn more about where the government is at in its deliberation, and how easy it is for Western Australians to be involved.”

If you wish to attend the event, RSVP by 30 April by calling (08) 9241 5000 or email respectlife@perthcatholic.org.au
