There are normally three stages towards admission into the Priestly Formation Program of the Archdiocese of Perth.
(This applies to "local' prospective seminarians, namely Australian citizens and permanent residents.)
(1) ENQUIRER STAGE
Single Catholic men of any age who are "just enquiring" about the priesthood in general can
contact at this stage any priest in the archdiocese or elsewhere. Those who are interested
in the Archdiocese of Perth in particular may contact, if it is convenient to them, any one
in the Vocations Promotion Team including the Vocations Director and Zone representatives.
They will be provided information on the Archdiocese and various forms of help in discerning
a priestly vocation. The Area or Zone Representatives, in particular, actively identify or reach
out to possible vocations in the parishes, youth groups and ministries, schools, universities
and other organizations in their area.
(2) APPLICANT STAGE
Those who choose formally to apply for admission to the Archdiocese of Perth's Formation
Program, will begin (or continue) to see the Vocations Director. Besides assisting each applicant
in further discernment of his vocation, the Vocations Director will assist him on the paperwork
required (application form, guideline for a brief autobiography, baptism and confirmation
certificates, academic records, three reference forms, psychological evaluation, medical
certificate.)
(3) CANDIDATE STAGE (for seminary admission)
At some point the Vocations Director will determine whether an applicant is ready to be
interviewed at a mutually agreed time by the ADMISSIONS' BOARD. The Board consists of the
Auxiliary Bishop of Perth, the Seminary Rector, the Dean of Studies and the Vocations Director.
The Board's decision ("Yes, admit"; "Yes, but..." or "No, because...") will be sent to the
Archbishop for his final decision.
