C.A.S.E.S. (Catholic Association for Special Education Support) became an organisation in its own right in 1990 Basically a parent group, C.A.S.E.S. works toward securing entrance into Catholic schools for children with disabilities and encouraging quality care once a child has gained entrance. Members of C.A.S.E.S. support one another through personal contact (by phone or in person), social gatherings, information evenings, Days of Reflection, Eucharists and participation in conferences and seminars and a Newsletter. In 1994, the Year of the Family, C.A.S.E.S. conducted a survey of needs of children with disabilities in relation to Catholic schools With hard information about numbers and localities of Catholic children with special needs the Catholic Church will be better able to plan its services and make adequate provisions for children with disabilities A copy of the survey, "Invitation to the Banquet", is available from Emmanuel Centre at a cost of $3. (includes postage). Recommendations
attached to the survey are presently being expanded to include goals
and strategies. The document "The Way Ahead" is also available.
