Catholic Women's League (WA) Inc. (CWL) is a National non-government and non-profit organisation which upholds the dignity of women and encourages their participation in church, social and public life.

THE LEAGUE is a member of, and networks with, women's organisations nationally and internationally and is a member of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organisations (WUCWO) which is recognised by the Holy See and maintains relations with seven Vatican departments. CWLA Inc is an accredited NGO (non government organisation) in consultation (Roster) status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The League was founded in England in 1906 by Margaret Fletcher and in this its 100th year, there will be celebrations throughout the world acknowledging her and the great organisation she founded.  In 1913 the League came to Australia and in October 1936 Archbishop Prendiville invited a group of Catholic ladies to a meeting – the purpose being to centralise the activities of several Catholic Women's Societies already operating at the time – the beginning of CWL in WA.

ACTIVITIES: In Catholic Women's League activities are primarily represented by the members in the branches – ie from the “ground up”. Bioethical and social issues of concern to members are brought to action from the branch, to state council, to national council and then on to the appropriate agency or department.

Some of the issues/concerns which have been discussed and acted on in recent times include the trafficking of women and children; family welfare; health care of the aged; abortion and euthanasia; the homeless; domestic violence; asylum seekers and refugees and many more.

PROJECTS: Members also participate in many practical ways. Hand knitted and handmade baby articles and other essential items are presented to “Pregnancy Assistance” in Perth and Bunbury; bags of toiletry necessities are packaged for women and girls in need – some in refuges, some in prison; “Linda's House of Hope” which exists for the support of women wanting to leave a life of prostitution is supplied with all sorts of necessities from bed linen to personal requisites; Christmas gifts are collected for the children of women in prison.  Along with other CWL branches throughout Australia, local branches host breakfasts and morning teas to raise funds for the Pink Ribbon for Breast Cancer Research fund.

BRANCHES:  Members in Branches share an environment of support and love for one another enhanced by a strong spiritual base. Conferences are held within dioceses, state and nationally and many women enjoy the opportunity to attend and thereby extend wonderful friendships with likeminded women throughout Australia.  Membership is open to Catholic women of all ages. NEW MEMBERS WARMLY WELCOMED.
