Welcome. New Year’s Day is traditionally a time for new beginnings. This year, I ask you to think about children who are always “new beginnings” for families and society. Always treat children with love. Whether you are teaching them, correcting them or simply enjoying them, do your best to keep your mind fixed on loving them. God is love, and children are made in the image and likeness of God. That is why they respond best to love, and why they are confused and troubled when love is absent. Love them and let them grow into the unique individuals they are supposed to be. You will enjoy them more. Have a happy, loving New Year. I’m Barry Hickey, Catholic Archbishop of Perth.
