RSM - Sisters of Mercy
Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia

The Order was founded by Venerable Catherine McAuley in 1831 at Dublin, Ireland. It was introduced in Australia, Perth, from Ireland by Mother Ursula Frayne in 1846. Foundations continued to be made from overseas until 1888. In 1981, the seventeen congregations of the Sisters of Mercy, while retaining autonomy, combined in a new administrative structure to form the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia (ISMA).
