Order of Discalced Carmelites

Founded 1562 in Spain by St Teresa of Jesus. In 1568 St John of the Cross began the first house of the Discalced Carmelite Friars. It was introduced to Australia in the Archdiocese of Brisbane from Ireland in 1948. First WA community established at Morley Parish in 1956.
