Welcome. It is very Christian to forgive. Other religions may encourage mercy, but not forgiveness. Jesus Christ took a different position. Forgiveness was part of his new law of love. It also included something extraordinary - forgiveness of your enemies. Jesus also showed us how. On the cross he called out to his Father to forgive those who killed him. What if we really took these words to heart? Look at the benefits. When we forgive someone who has hurt us we throw away a heavy burden of resentment and achieve peace . If nations and ethnic groups offered forgiveness instead of pursuing retribution, it would change the world. Let us try forgiveness and see what a difference it makes I'm Barry Hickey, Catholic Archbishop of Perth.
