Founded by St Marcellin Champagnat in 1817 in Lavalla, France. Introduced to Australia in the Archdiocese of Sydney from St Genis Laval, France, by Brs Ludovic Laboureyras, Jarlath Finand, Augustinus McDonald and Peter Tennyson in 1872. First WA community established at St Ildephonsus' College in the then Abbey Nullius of New Norcia in 1913. First community in Perth Archdiocese established at St Paul's High School, Northam, in 1948. This was followed by the community at St Joseph's College, Subiaco in 1954 and at Marist College Senior School (now Newman College), Churchlands in 1965.
