Organisation Details

The University of Notre Dame Australia provides higher education within a context of Catholic faith and values. Founded through an Act of Parliament in 1989, the University has emerged from humble beginnings to become a distinctive national university, with over 11,000 students enrolled on its three campuses in Fremantle, Sydney and Broome.

Notre Dame seeks to provide an excellent standard of teaching, research and training for the professions, underpinned by pastoral care and support for all students. While comparatively young in age, Notre Dame follows the traditions and practices of Catholic higher education, which for centuries has offered leadership in university education around the world.

Educational programmes reflecting this tradition are offered in the disciplines of Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, Law, Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Philosophy & Theology and Physiotherapy. All students also undertake a ?core curriculum?, comprised of studies in philosophy, theology and ethics, preparing students to think through their own beliefs and choices, both now and in the future.

Central to what makes Notre Dame unique is its commitment to a personalised university education. This approach to education is grounded in an appreciation of the uniqueness of each individual, and a desire to see each student grow and flourish as a person. In this way, the University seeks to form graduates who are not only professionally competent in their chosen fields, but who are also rich in humanity, with a genuine concern for others and a capacity to act in a Christian spirit of service.

In its commitment to the pursuit of truth and wisdom, the University also strives to actively contribute to intellectual and public life, as a service to the Church and to the wider community.
