The Archdiocese’s Centre for Life Marriage & Family (CLMF) has recently introduced its latest resource – an Advent reflection journal – which aims to aid in spiritual enrichment among the faithful as Christmas draws near.

The journal features Mass readings of the day, practical prayer and devotional information, meditations from saints, spaces to write, and daily guided reflections.

“For each day of Advent, the journal features a Mass reading from the day accompanied by three questions to prompt the user to think about how they can prepare for Christ’s coming in the areas of their internal life, family and in the community,” explained Bronia Karniewicz, CLMF Manager of Life Services.

“This is supplemented by sections to deepen our understanding and experience of different forms of prayer like Lectio Divina and the Rosary.

“The journal also includes reflections on the themes of Advent: hope, peace, joy and love, along with wise words from the saints,” she added.

Ms Karniewicz cited that the spiritual aspect of preparing one’s self for the significant message of Christmas can often be forgotten during one of the busiest periods of the year.

“Having a specific time each day to reflect on the birth of Jesus gives us a chance to recentre our focus on why this is an important time of year.

“I hope everyone will use this as a tool to help deepen their spiritual lives and use this time as an opportunity to think more deeply about who God is and how He is working in our lives,” she continued.

“It is a chance to internalise God’s words and enhance our Advent experience, by applying them to our lives.”

Besides journaling, Ms Karniewicz shares a few ideas on how the faithful can live out their faith in the upcoming joyful season.

“Support a good cause like Pregnancy Assistance, Lifelink, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, whether through voluntary services, financial support or through spiritual support.

“Create an advent wreath and make a time to light the coinciding candle for each week and spend time in prayer.”
